Vampire Kiss Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

Red fruit punch, and unashamed about it. Black cherry, strawberry and pineapple with orange and lime cutting across the top, over a soft vanilla-bean base that rounds the sharp edges. It is the brightest thing in Midnight Botanica by a wide margin — the one that reads as Halloween party rather than Halloween graveyard, and the only one tagged for a teen audience.

This oil is far more restricted on skin than in the bath. IFRA permits it at up to 25% in rinse-off but only 2% in a body lotion, 0.7% in eye and facial products, and effectively nothing in deodorant — typical of a citrus-heavy build, where the fruit materials carry sensitisation limits that stop applying once the product washes away. Those are safety ceilings, not use rates: your actual load comes from the base you are working in, and it will be far lower.

Formulator's shorthand: build this into things that go down the drain. Body wash, bubble bath, bath bombs and scrubs are where the fruit reads best and where the regulatory headroom is widest — then dose it at the rate your base calls for.

Midnight Botanica

Eight scents from a garden that only opens after dark — heavy florals, damp earth, and the things that grow over stone. Vampire Kiss is the bright one: fruit and sugar against everything else in the set.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration None Vanilla content: none. The vanilla bean note is an accord, not vanillin, so it smells sweet without browning a white base. No stabilizer needed.
Flashpoint 168 °F / 75 °C The lowest in this collection by 32 degrees. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F still clears it, but the margin is narrow — add as late as possible or the citrus top burns off.
Cold process soap Not specified Not tested for acceleration or discoloration at high pH. Fruit and citrus accords commonly fade in CP — test a small batch first.
Candles & wax Not specified IFRA places no restriction on non-skin use, but that is a safety ceiling rather than a performance rating. We have not burn-tested this oil, and the low flashpoint would need care.

How much to use

Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one.

Start here — your base sets the rate 0.3% to 5% That is the entire range across all 86 of our bases, and 40 of them cap at 1%. How much fragrance a product can carry is decided by the base, not by the oil. This is the number you formulate to. See every base and its load →
The legal ceiling — not a target IFRA maximum The figures below are the highest concentration IFRA permits for skin safety. They are a limit you must not exceed, not an amount to aim for. In almost every product the base will run out of capacity long before the IFRA ceiling is reached.

Category maxima across our 86 bases. Facial and tear-free versions sit lower than the body version of the same base, and five of our sulfate-free bases specify a different load for vanillin-containing fragrances. Always take the figure from the base product page you are actually using, or see the full reference table.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
