Haunted House Fragrance Oil

$4.75 – $34.00

Step into an ancient manor where decades of overindulgence in the kitchen have left a ghostly warmth lingering in the floorboards. Whispers of burnt caramel and dark maple syrup drown the air in a thick intoxicating sweetness. Forget everything you know about typical pastry scents, this is darker and more decadent.

Haunted House Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

A pastry gourmand that has been left too long. Burnt caramel and dark maple syrup carry it, with the scorched edge of sugar taken past the point a baker would have pulled it. There is old wood underneath — the smell of a kitchen that has been in use for a century and has soaked it all up. It is thick, warm and deliberately unsubtle, and it sits well apart from the clean bakery scents most gourmands aim for.

Plan around the colour. At ~5% vanillin, plus caramel and maple materials that carry their own browning, this is the most likely oil in the collection to darken a pale base — and it will do it faster than vanillin alone would. Use a Vanilla Stabilizer, or start from an amber, caramel or deep cream base where the shift reads as part of the product.

Formulator's shorthand: the heaviest gourmand in the set. Build it into things people scoop rather than spray — body butter, sugar scrub, whipped soap — and pick a base whose colour you were never trying to protect.

Midnight Botanica

Eight scents from a garden that only opens after dark — heavy florals, damp earth, and the things that grow over stone. Haunted House is the kitchen: burnt sugar and old wood, the sweetest thing in the set.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration Expected — and quick ~5% vanillin, plus caramel and maple materials that brown on their own. Expect a pale base to shift sooner and further than vanillin content alone suggests. Stabilizer, or an amber base from the start.
Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C High. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F leaves a wide margin. Still add as late as you can — the cherry lives in the top notes.
Cold process soap Not tested This is a new reformulation and cold process testing is not complete. Sugar and caramel materials commonly accelerate trace and can scorch in gel phase, so run a small batch before you scale.
Candles & wax Not tested Formulated for skin, not wax. No burn testing performed.

How much to use

Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one.

Start here — your base sets the rate 0.3% to 5% That is the entire range across all 86 of our bases, and 40 of them cap at 1%. How much fragrance a product can carry is decided by the base, not by the oil. This is the number you formulate to. See every base and its load →
The legal ceiling — not a target Certificate pending This fragrance is new to the line and its IFRA certificate is still being finalised. We are not publishing figures until it is issued — a ceiling we cannot certify is worse than no number at all.

Category maxima across our 86 bases. Facial and tear-free versions sit lower than the body version of the same base, and five of our sulfate-free bases specify a different load for vanillin-containing fragrances. Always take the figure from the base product page you are actually using, or see the full reference table.

Need limits before it is published? Email hello@essentialsbycatalina.com and we will send the current figures from our supplier's documentation. Please do not carry over the limits from another oil in this collection — they vary widely between fragrances, and two oils that smell related can certify very differently.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
