Wholesale Beeswax

Beeswax is a natural wax that is secreted by worker bees. New beeswax is light yellow in color, but over time it naturally darkens to a golden yellow. Beeswax darkens from contact with the bees and propolis, which is a resinous mixture honey bees produce. Beekeepers then harvest this natural beeswax, which is then gently filtered and refined to remove impurities like propolis and debris. The result is pure, high-quality granular wax (pastilles), making it easier to melt, weigh, and store. These cosmetic-grade pastilles can be used for everything from candles to lip balm and specialty creams.

Our White Beeswax is the wax separated from the honeycomb of the hive-bee, Apis mellifica, Linn. Our white beeswax is cleaned and filtered by water then bleached by exposing it in thin layers to the action of the air, sunlight, and moisture. There are no chemical elements used in the refinement process.

A Short History On Beeswax

Beeswax has been used since the dawn of civilization. It has been found in the pharaoh's tombs, sunken Viking ships and Roman ruins. Beeswax was, basically, the duct tape of old world, with thousands of uses and virtually indispensable for all cultures. Beeswax does not go bad and has been recovered from ancient shipwrecks, heated up and is still usable. The Romans demanded beeswax when they conquered the city of Trebizond in the first century AD. In Medieval European wax was even used as a unit of trade for taxes. In 1330 farmers in one region of France paid 2 lbs of beeswax per year. On 1632 records show that the French Monastery called for rent of 600 lbs. of beeswax per year.  In modern times beeswax is used in fine candle making,  cosmetics, woodworking, art work and even used as a coating for food and medicines. Recent medical research suggest that the therapeutic properties of beeswax are beneficial in treating many ailments and for use as an integral component of  balms used in post surgery treatments.

Beeswax and its Benefits

Natural Skin Care

Lip care: Beeswax is great for chapped or dry cracked lips because of its natural oils that penetrate deep into the skin to soften and soothe them. We recommend you add beeswax to your lip balm for a better moisturizer and protectant from the everyday exposure to weather that can be so harsh on the lips. The exact percentage to use depends on what else you are adding to it, but is usually 15-20% will give you a nice solid lip balm.

Stretch marks: Commonly occur after pregnancy, weight gain, or weight loss. If you are making lotion bars for expectant mothers, beeswax is one of many natural oils that help heal and prevent stretch marks from occurring. A simple recipe is equal parts coconut oil , beeswax  and shea butter, cocoa butter or mango butter or a mix of all.

Eczema: A common skin irritation that results in extremely dry skin, especially in the colder months. Beeswax soothes and protects the skin from dry climate with its powerful vitamin rich enzymes. A simple recipe is 2 parts olive oil , 1 part beeswax, 1 part coconut oil. Melt and mix together, customize it with other ingredients that are beneficial for the skin like extracts or essential oils. You can also try replacing the olive oil with safflower oil or jojoba.

Our white beeswax pastilles are filtered and cleaned so they are free of any debris.  Pastilles like these are the easiest to work with in personal care formulations as they do not require heavy fragrance masking. They tend to be odorless with only a slight, inherent beeswax waxy smell.
