RIP Fragrance Oil

$4.75 – $40.00

Why rest in peace when you can Rest in PetalsĀ

A wickedly romantic explosion of rich florals straight from the grave. However it is a dramatic farewell from traditional florals, RIP leaves an intoxicating trail in its wake. This scent opens with a dusting of fine sugar before surrendering to a deep red rose accord, then finishes off with a smoky oud. A scent so gorgeous even peace can wait.

RIP Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

Rose over oud is a classic pairing, and the sugar is what makes this one modern. A dusting of fine sugar opens it, takes the edge off the smoke, and burns away fast — what is left underneath is a deep red rose, riper and heavier than a garden rose, sitting on a base of smoky oud that holds for hours. It reads romantic rather than gothic on the skin, which is the trick of it.

In formulation it is unusually well behaved for something this rich. At ~1.5% vanillin it is one of the lowest in the collection, so a white base drifts only slightly over a long shelf life rather than turning. The 200 °F flashpoint is high, giving a wide margin in melt and pour, and the oud base means the scent does not flash off the way a bright floral would.

Formulator's shorthand: the leave-on workhorse of this collection. Low discoloration risk and a long dry-down make it the one to build a perfume or body oil around.

Midnight Botanica

Eight scents from a garden that only opens after dark — heavy florals, damp earth, and the things that grow over stone. RIP is the rose itself, and the most wearable place to start.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration Minimal ~1.5% vanillin, among the lowest in the collection. A white base warms only slightly over a long shelf life. A stabilizer is optional here rather than necessary.
Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C High. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F leaves a very wide margin, and the oud base survives the heat well.
Cold process soap Not specified Not tested for acceleration or discoloration at high pH. Rose and oud materials both commonly shift in CP — test a small batch first.
Candles & wax Not specified Formulated for skin, not wax. No burn testing performed.

How much to use

Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one.

Start here — your base sets the rate 0.3% to 5% That is the entire range across all 86 of our bases, and 40 of them cap at 1%. How much fragrance a product can carry is decided by the base, not by the oil. This is the number you formulate to. See every base and its load →
The legal ceiling — not a target Certificate pending This fragrance is new to the line and its IFRA certificate is still being finalised. We are not publishing figures until it is issued — a ceiling we cannot certify is worse than no number at all.

Category maxima across our 86 bases. Facial and tear-free versions sit lower than the body version of the same base, and five of our sulfate-free bases specify a different load for vanillin-containing fragrances. Always take the figure from the base product page you are actually using, or see the full reference table.

Need limits before it is published? Email hello@essentialsbycatalina.com and we will send the current figures from our supplier's documentation. Please do not carry over the limits from another oil in this collection — they vary widely between fragrances, and two oils that smell related can certify very differently.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
