Pan Dulce Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

A panadería at seven in the morning. Warm butter and toasted flour first, then vanilla sugar and the faint orange-blossom note that runs through most conchas and pan de muerto. It is sweet, but it is bakery sweet — there is a doughy, slightly savoury middle that keeps it from collapsing into candy.

This is the most vanillin-heavy of the five original oils at 2.5–10%, so discoloration is not a risk to manage but a certainty to design around: expect a white base to go tan and then brown. In exchange you get the highest rinse-off ceiling in the set at 15%, and a flashpoint of 200 °F that gives more room than anything else here.

Formulator's shorthand: the best-behaved gourmand of the five in terms of headroom, and the worst-behaved in terms of colour. Start from a tan base and it becomes the easiest of these five to work with.

Ten scents drawn from the ofrenda itself. Pan Dulce is the bread left for the dead — the sweetest note in the set, and the one most people recognise immediately.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration Expected — significant 2.5–10% vanillin, the highest of the five original oils. White bases will go tan and then brown. A vanilla colour stabilizer is strongly recommended if colour stability matters.
Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C The highest of the five original oils. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F has a very wide margin.
Cold process soap Not specified Not tested for acceleration or discoloration at high pH. High-vanillin bakery fragrances commonly darken hard in CP — test a small batch first.
Candles & non-skin 1% permitted, not rated IFRA Class 11 allows 1.000%, but this oil is formulated for skin and we have done no burn testing.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
