Evocative and Gothic

Unearth the mysteries from the deep of rich freshly turned soil and moss covered stones. Grave Digger captures a haunting blend of damp Oakmoss, rich patchouli, and weathered cedarwood blanketed in a dense fog. Unapologetically Earthy. It carries a heavy masculine edge but crafted for the enigmatic.

Grave Digger Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

A true fougere with the lavender taken out and the forest floor left in. Damp oakmoss and wet stone open it, patchouli gives it the earthy weight, and weathered cedarwood dries it out at the end. There is no sweetness anywhere in the profile — this is soil, moss and bark, and it commits to that completely. The only scent in the collection with a masculine lean, which makes it the obvious anchor for a men's line.

It contains no vanillin at all, which for a scent this dark is genuinely useful. Most heavy earthy fragrances carry vanillin as a fixative and quietly brown a pale base over a few months. This one does not, so a white lotion or a clear melt and pour stays the colour you made it, with no stabilizer and no compromise. Flashpoint is a comfortable 200 °F.

Formulator's shorthand: the darkest and driest thing in the collection, and the easiest to keep clean-looking — no vanillin means no browning. Patchouli also deepens with age, so a batch that sits a while gets better rather than worse.

Midnight Botanica

Eight scents from a garden that only opens after dark — heavy florals, damp earth, and the things that grow over stone. Grave Digger is the ground itself, and the only one in the set with a masculine lean.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration None No vanillin content. Unusual for a fragrance this dark and this heavy — a white base holds true with no stabilizer needed.
Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C High. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F leaves a wide margin, and heavy base notes like these survive the heat well.
Cold process soap Not suitable Tested and ruled out, not merely untested. Do not substitute it into a CP recipe. Melt & pour is unaffected.
Candles & wax Not suitable Formulated for skin, not wax. No burn testing performed.

How much to use

Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one.

Start here — your base sets the rate 0.3% to 5% That is the entire range across all 86 of our bases, and 40 of them cap at 1%. How much fragrance a product can carry is decided by the base, not by the oil. This is the number you formulate to. See every base and its load →
The legal ceiling — not a target Certificate pending This fragrance is new to the line and its IFRA certificate is still being finalised. We are not publishing figures until it is issued — a ceiling we cannot certify is worse than no number at all.

Category maxima across our 86 bases. Facial and tear-free versions sit lower than the body version of the same base, and five of our sulfate-free bases specify a different load for vanillin-containing fragrances. Always take the figure from the base product page you are actually using, or see the full reference table.

Certificate under review. Grave Digger's IFRA certificate has been issued, but several of its class values need confirming with our supplier before we publish them. We would rather hold a figure than print one we are not certain of. Email hello@essentialsbycatalina.com and we will send the current documentation directly. Oakmoss is among the more tightly restricted materials in the IFRA standards, so expect this oil's ceilings to sit lower than its siblings.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
