Xocolatl (Mexican Hot Chocolate) Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

Drinking chocolate rather than a chocolate bar. The cocoa here is dark and a little dusty — closer to unsweetened powder than to milk chocolate — and cinnamon runs through the whole thing rather than sitting on top of it. There is a dry, faintly smoky edge underneath that keeps it from reading as a dessert fragrance, which is what makes it work next to Copal.

At roughly 8% vanillin it will brown a light base, so plan the colour accordingly. Its ceilings are generous where it counts — 8.883% across lotions, creams and fine fragrance, 6.813% in rinse-off — but it is the most restricted of the five original oils at the edges: leave-in hair products, nail care, powders and all non-skin applications are rated at zero.

Formulator's shorthand: a body-care chocolate, not a candle chocolate. Push it in cream and soap, and read the exclusions before you plan a hair or home line around it.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
