Café de Olla (Mexican Spiced Coffee) Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

Coffee with the pot, not coffee from a syrup bottle. The roast note is dark and slightly bitter, and it arrives wrapped in cinnamon bark and unrefined sugar rather than dressed up as dessert. The traditional olla version is brewed with piloncillo and canela, and that is what this reads as — a spiced brew with body, not a caramel latte.

Two things shape how you formulate with it. It carries roughly 6% vanillin, so it will brown a white base over time; plan on a stabilizer or design the colour around it. And its certified ceilings are flat and low — about 3.8% across most skin categories — which is plenty for a scrub or a wash but rules it out as a fine-fragrance concentrate.

Formulator's shorthand: treat it as a rinse-off and scrub fragrance first. Let the base be brown, tan or amber from the start and the discoloration stops being a problem.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration Expected — browning Roughly 6% vanillin. White and clear bases will yellow then brown over weeks. Use a vanilla colour stabilizer, or design the product around a tan or amber finish.
Flashpoint 187 °F / 86 °C Add below this temperature. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F has a wide margin.
Cold process soap Not specified Not tested for acceleration or discoloration at high pH. Vanillin-heavy gourmands often darken sharply in CP — test a small batch first.
Candles & non-skin 100% permitted, not rated IFRA Class 11 carries no restriction on this oil, but it is formulated for skin and we have done no burn testing.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
