Copal Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

This is resin smoke, not wood. The opening is sharp and camphorous — closer to pine pitch or green frankincense than to cedar — and it settles into a dry, dusty resin that reads as ceremonial rather than cosy. If you have tried a generic incense fragrance and found it too sweet, too powdery, or too much like a gift shop, this is the corrective.

Formulating with it is unusually forgiving. There is no vanillin, so nothing browns; the certified ceilings are generous almost everywhere, and 12% in rinse-off is high for a resinous material — you will run out of nose before you run out of regulatory headroom in soap. The flashpoint at 187 °F leaves a wide working window for melt and pour.

Formulator's shorthand: use it as the anchor rather than the star. It has the depth to hold a citrus or a light floral in place without smelling like a men's cologne.

Día de los Muertos

Ten scents drawn from the ofrenda itself. Copal is the smoke that carries the rest — the structural note the food and flower scents in this collection are built to sit on.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
