Straight from the Pint Fragrance Oil

$4.75 – $36.00

We have all done it, no judgement. No bowl, no spoon, no self control, just peppermint ice cream with flakes of dark chocolate. It smells so close to the real thing you may just be compelled to reach for a pint.

Straight from the Pint Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

No bowl, no spoon, no self control. Cold peppermint ice cream with flakes of dark chocolate through it, eaten standing at the freezer door. The mint is the sweet creamy kind rather than anything sharp or medicinal, and the chocolate reads as dark and slightly bitter against it.

For the formulator it is the outlier of the collection and the most forgiving of the seven. The IFRA ceilings are generous enough that your base is the limit almost everywhere, it holds in cold process, and the mint gives you a cool top note that nothing else in the set has. The cost is colour: at 7% vanillin this is the second-highest in the collection and a white base will not stay white.

Formulator's shorthand: the easy ceiling, the hard colour. Formulate to your base, not to the certificate — then decide whether you are fighting the vanillin or designing around it.

Guilty Pleasures

A fall and winter collection with no pumpkin, no spiced leaf and no cider stand — built on sugar, dairy and fried dough instead. Straight from the Pint is the cold one: the only mint in the set, and the only thing here that does not smell like it came out of an oven.

The only mint-family oil in the collection, which makes it the natural contrast piece in a gift set — six warm bakery scents and one cold one reads as deliberate. It also carries straight through into the December and Valentine's end of the season.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration Expected — pronounced 7% vanillin, second only to One More Slice. A white base goes cream within weeks and tan within months, faster in cold process. A Vanilla Stabilizer slows it; a mint-green or cocoa colourway sidesteps it entirely.
Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C High, with a comfortable margin. No constraint on melt and pour. Add the oil late regardless — peppermint is volatile and heat takes the cool top first.
Cold process soap Suitable — tested Holds at high pH. Expect a tan to brown bar from the vanillin, so pair it with a cocoa or charcoal design rather than attempting a pale mint green.
Candles & wax Not rated No burn testing performed, so we do not list it as candle safe. Class 11 permits 100%, which is a non-skin ceiling rather than evidence it burns well.

How much to use

Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one.

Start here — your base sets the rate 0.3% to 5% That is the entire range across all 86 of our bases, and 40 of them cap at 1%. How much fragrance a product can carry is decided by the base, not by the oil. On this oil that is true almost everywhere — the certificate is generous enough that it rarely binds. See every base and its load →
The legal ceiling — not a target Base-limited Certified under the 48th Amendment, which uses Classes 1–11 rather than the Categories on newer certificates. The ceilings here are high — 17% for fine fragrance, 7.75% for rinse-off — so for almost everything you make, your base runs out of capacity long before IFRA does. One exception, below.

Category maxima across our 86 bases. Facial and tear-free versions sit lower than the body version of the same base, and five of our sulfate-free bases specify a different load for vanillin-containing fragrances — which this is. Always take the figure from the base product page you are actually using, or see the full reference table.

The one place IFRA is the binding limit: our Body Spray Base allows up to 5%, but Class 2 caps body sprays, mists and deodorant at 1.000% for this oil. Formulate body sprays to 1%, not to the base allowance. Every other product type on this page is limited by the base first.
Not permitted in: lip products and children's toys (Class 1) and oral care of all types (Class 6). Both are certified at 0.000%.

Certified by Essentials by Catalina, Inc. under the 48th Amendment of the IFRA safety guidelines. The 48th uses eleven numbered classes; the 51st Amendment splits several of them into 5A–5D, 7A/7B, 10A/10B and 11A/11B and adds Category 12 for candles. Figures do not map one-to-one between the two, so do not compare this table against a 51st Amendment certificate row by row.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.

Mint n Chip Fragrance Oil

Introducing Mint n Chip fragrance oil, a delightful blend that evokes the irresistible aroma of refreshing mint and decadent chocolate, reminiscent of the classic Mint n Chip ice cream. Indulge your senses in the cool, invigorating scent of fresh mint leaves mingling with rich, creamy chocolate chips. Transport yourself to a blissful moment of indulgence as the enticing fragrance fills the air, conjuring memories of summertime treats and sweet nostalgia.

Pure & Undiluted

While other suppliers may offer different grades of Fragrance Oils that may be diluted or cut with carrier oils, at Essentials by Catalina we only offer concentrated, pure and undiluted Cosmetic Grade Fragrance Oils. Working with concentrated Fragrance Oils such as these reduces the need for high fragrance loads. A little goes a long way. For recommended fragrance loads please see the "Customization" tabs or consult the fragrance or essential oils IFRA document.
