The Local Coffeehouse Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

Nothing quite hits the same as stepping into your local coffeehouse. The moment you push open the door it's pure magic: the hiss of the steam wand, the grind of your favourite bean. This is a remarkably true-to-life blend of fresh coffee beans and heavy cream, with a subtle swirl of caramelized sugar and vanilla. Instantly comforting and unmistakable.

For the formulator, this is the darker, more literal of the two coffees — bean first, cream second. It is far kinder to colour than Warm Mug, at around 2% vanillin. The IFRA certificate is wide everywhere except one place: body sprays are capped at 1%, a fifth of what our Body Spray Base allows.

Formulator's shorthand: the coffee for products that have to stay pale — and the wrong coffee for a body spray.

Sweater Weather

Seven scents for the season when the only plan is a blanket, a book and nowhere to be. Mornings on the porch, afternoons in bed, evenings off the clock — cosy gourmands, one spiced chai and one autumn floral.

Tagged year-round rather than seasonal, and that is accurate. The Sweater Weather window is a merchandising decision, not a limit on the oil.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

DiscolorationExpected — mild~2% vanillin. A white base warms to ivory or cream over a few weeks. A Vanilla Stabilizer holds it if colour matters.
Flashpoint200 °F / 93 °CHigh, with a comfortable margin over a melt-and-pour pour around 140 °F.
Cold process soapNot yet ratedWe have not rated this oil for cold process. Test a small batch for acceleration and scent morph before scaling up.
Candles & waxNot yet ratedNot rated for wax. IFRA allows up to 100% in candles, but burn performance has not been tested.

How much to use

Two different limits apply. Always use the lower one.

Category maxima across our 86 bases. Facial and tear-free versions sit lower, and five of our sulfate-free bases specify a different load for vanillin-containing fragrances — which this one does. Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
