La Llorona Fragrance Oil

$4.75 – $42.00

She is a whisper between tragedy and romance, the one we all feared as children.

Notes of gardenia, wild chamomile and honey from the campo drift and linger like an ethereal embrace. Intoxicating tobacco leaf with earthy moss drape over you as she calls out for her deceased children in the night.

Haunting and unforgettable.

La Llorona Fragrance Oil

What it smells like and what it does in a base

A white floral that has been left outdoors. Gardenia and tuberose carry the opening alongside wild chamomile and honey, but the whole thing is anchored in oakmoss and vanilla tobacco — so the floral never reads as clean or fresh. It sits somewhere between a perfume and a riverbank, which is exactly the intent.

It is the most demanding oil in the collection to formulate with. At roughly 9% vanillin it will darken a pale product markedly, and unlike most of the range this one is explicitly not suitable for cold process soap — that is a stated incompatibility, not an untested unknown. Flashpoint is a comfortable 200 °F.

Formulator's shorthand: build it into something already dark. An amber, cream or tinted base removes the only real obstacle, and the mossy floral is unlike anything else you can buy in this category.

Día de los Muertos

Ten scents drawn from the ofrenda itself. La Llorona is the story told alongside it — the weeping woman, and the only scent in the set built around water, moss and damp air.

Behavior in base

The four things that go wrong, and whether they will here

Discoloration Expected — significant Roughly 9% vanillin, among the highest in the collection. White bases will darken markedly over time as it oxidises. Use a vanilla colour stabilizer, or formulate in an amber, cream or tinted product.
Flashpoint 200 °F / 93 °C Among the highest in the collection. Melt & pour poured at 140 °F has a very wide margin.
Cold process soap Not suitable This is a stated incompatibility, not an untested unknown — the only oil in the collection carrying one. Use melt & pour instead.
Candles & wax Not suitable Formulated for skin, not wax. No burn testing performed.

Maximum usage levels

IFRA certificate in preparation

This fragrance is new to the line and its IFRA certificate is still being finalised. We are not publishing usage percentages until it is issued — a ceiling we cannot certify is worse than no number at all.

Need limits before it is published? Email hello@essentialsbycatalina.com and we will send the current figures from our supplier's documentation. Please do not carry over the limits from another oil in this collection — a mossy, tobacco-anchored composition like this one certifies very differently from the florals and gourmands alongside it, and the difference is not small.

Pure & undiluted

Why our oils behave differently from most

Many suppliers sell fragrance oils cut with carrier oils or diluents to reduce cost. Ours are concentrated, pure, undiluted and cosmetic grade. A concentrated oil means a lower fragrance load per batch — a little goes a long way, and your cost per unit drops even when the per-ounce price does not.

Product compatibility is not the responsibility of Essentials By Catalina, Inc. We strongly advise sampling before committing to larger quantities so you can evaluate performance, compatibility and safety in your own formulation. Keep all products out of children's reach.
