Fragrance & Essential Oils
Give your formulation its signature scent
Solubilizer guidance: A solubilizer is needed if adding fragrance or essential oils to this water-based product. Pre-mix your Polysorbate 20 with your fragrance before adding it to the base — start at a 1:1 ratio and increase up to 5:1 depending on the specific fragrance. Small-batch testing is strongly recommended. If a fragrance doesn't solubilize on the first attempt, adding more Polysorbate to the already-scented base will not correct it; the pre-mix step is essential.
Caution: We recommend that you do not use citrus-based essential oils with this base.

Mixing Recommendations
Follow these steps for consistent results
Work at room temperature
Mix within a range of 20–25 °C (68–77 °F). No heating is required.
Add your pre-mixed fragrance, colorant, and additives
Mix in slowly until fully incorporated and uniform. Hand-mixing with a spatula or an electric mixer with a paddle attachment is recommended for this base.

Hi there! I love the consistency of the Neutrogena Hydro boost body gel cream. Would I be able to mix this with another one of your bases to get the consistency? Fingers crossed you are familiar with the Hydro boost gel cream! any help would be greatly appreciated! -
Hi Brianna, Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost is what our Hyaluronic Gel Cream is modeled after. There is no need to mix it with anything else, but if you wish to change the consistency, this is not something we have experimented with, so we definitely recommend making small samples to test, as it could cause the base to destabilize and separate. Excellent lightweight Gel Moisturizer Base for DIY
To my knowledge, it is the ONLY truly lightweight, gel type (oil-free) moisturizer base easily accessible on the market. I have tried a range of cream bases – everything from MakingCosmetics, Ingred to Die For, Bulk Actives – and even the “lighter” geared ones are far too heavy for anyone under 60.
This is the lightest, most hydrating gel moisturizer (reminds me in richness to that of Neutro***** HydroBoost Water Gel or Clini*** Dramaticall Diff Moisturizing Gel) suitable for even the oiliest skin types (ideal for adolescent skin).
Despite the manufacturer’s & carrier’s information, I have been successfully able to incorporated upwards of 10% by volume additional liquid active ingredients to this base with no problem. Seems to incorporate moderate %s of oil (Vit. E Acetate, Grapeseed Oil etc) and becomes a thicker lotion consistency. Moderate %s of water-soluble actives (d-Panthenol, liposomal Niacinamide, Algae Extract) make the gel more runny – but its nothing that adding 0.25%-0.5% Aristoflex to the batch won’t fix (Aristoflex is the main gel emulsifier in this product). Any additional ingredient load in the 7-10% range would be wise to add the Aristoflex just to stabilize it. No heat required, easily done with hand mixer.
