Give your formulation its signature scent
Solubilizer guidance: A solubilizer is needed if adding fragrance or essential oils to this water-based product. Pre-mix your Polysorbate 20 with your fragrance before adding it to the base — start at a 1:1 ratio and increase up to 5:1 depending on the specific fragrance. Small-batch testing is strongly recommended. If a fragrance doesn't solubilize on the first attempt, adding more Polysorbate to the already-scented base will not correct it; the pre-mix step is essential.

Mixing Recommendations
Follow these steps for consistent results
Work at room temperature
Mix within a range of 20–25 °C (68–77 °F). No heating is required.
Add your pre-mixed fragrance, colorant, and additives
Mix in slowly until fully incorporated and uniform. Hand-mixing with a spatula or mixing directly in the gallon is recommended for this base.

Shelf Life
This product has a shelf life of 1 year from the date of manufacture when stored properly.
Store in a Cool, Dry Place
Keep containers at 60–80 °F (15–27 °C), away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Avoid storing near windows, radiators, or in vehicles.
Keep Containers Sealed
Always replace lids and caps tightly after each use. Exposure to air can introduce contaminants and accelerate degradation.

I would like to add a fragrance to the base, but I\’m having such a hard time with the percentages/ratios. I would like to make a four ounce bottle and I know I have to mix the Polysorbate 80 with the FO/EO first. Can you tell me the exact percentage I should use for the base, and polysorbate 20 with the FO/EO? Thank you -
Firstly, when making small quantities like a 4 ounce bottle, an easy reference with regard to percentages is that 7 drops of fragrance to each ounce of product = 1%. When mixing the fragrance with Poly 20 you want to start at 1 to 1 ratio. Every oil is different, so you may need to add more Poly up to a 4 to 1 ratio. Any higher than that and your product may get sticky.

Can I add hydrosols to this? if so, at what % load? -
Being that Hydrosols are water-based as is the Botanical Mist, you can absolutely add them to the base. Please make sure the hydrosol is cosmetic grade, thus free from contaminants. We recommend a 1% fragrance load for this base, but with regard to additives beyond fragrance, you will want to small batch test for compatibility and stability until you reach your desired result.

I see the fragrance max is 1%, but what about extracts like calendula extract? Also, is this base okay for use on the face? -
Hi Katie, you will want to follow the recommended usage rates for the extract you choose to add.
For Calendula, it’s below:Use water-based additives only
For Skincare – from 0.1 to 1%
For Haircare – from 0.1 to 1%
For Soaps – from 0.1 to 1%
And, yes, this product is a great choice for a facial mist refresher, being cautious around eyes, of course.You will want to consult the “Customization” tab on the Botanical Mist page for specific mixing instructions.

What is the difference between the vitamin C used in this mist and the Vitamin C used in the ACE lotion? -
Good Morning, the Vitamin C in the Botanical Mist is part of the preservative package used in the botanical extracts in the base.

I need to know if this is the same as the original body spray base. Will it blend perfectly once I add oil? If used for body spray base, will the oil dissolve in it with no trace? -
Good Morning, the Body Spray Base is a completely different formula, as it is alcohol based. Please view the “Customization” tab on the Hydrating Botanical Mist page for specific instructions on how to incorporate fragrance and essential oils. The oils need to be solubilized prior to adding to a water-based formula, and not all FOs or EOs will remain clear. Thank you

Hi, please advice. I want to use this base and fragrance at 3% while keeping a mostly clear final product. What emulsifier do you recommend and how much should I use to stabilize for a body mist? Thank you -
Good Morning, we recommend using Polysorbate 20 as your solubilizer. You would start out at a 1 – 1 ratio of Poly to FO and sometimes depending on the FO, you may need to go as high as 5 – 1. Any higher and the base starts to get sticky and not clear. At 3% FO it is very doubtful you will end up with a clear product, as that is a high percentage of FO. We recommend 1%. Please visit the “Customization” tab on the product page for our recommendations. If you choose to scent higher, we recommend testing for compatibility before making a large batch.
