Mixing Recommendations
Follow these steps for consistent results
Melt the base
Melt in a double boiler, or a microwave for smaller quantities. Do not allow the soap to come to a boil.
Add fragrance and other additives
Once fully melted, add your fragrance or essential oil, colorant, and any other additives. Mix in slowly until fully incorporated.
Mix gently, without whipping in air
Hand-mixing with a spatula works well for small batches. For larger volumes, use an electric mixer with a paddle attachment. Avoid incorporating too much air while mixing.
Pour, cool, and un-mold
Pour into your mold and let rest until fully solid. Silicone molds work best for most applications; wood block molds are great for bulk quantities. Once fully cooled, un-mold and wrap — your soaps are ready.

Can you tell me why I’m getting a thick scum forming on top after it has melted- I’m following the instructions to a tee. How to a stop this and/or remove it. Thanks -
Hi Kylie, it is normal to get foam on top (which on the black soap can look like scum). That can be mitigated by spiritizing with alcohol and not overmixing. This happens with us too when we pump the 8000 lb batch of soap into pails/blocks. Our guys take care of the foam with a spritz of alcohol before the soap sets. Hope this helps!
