Instructions
To use the calculator adjust the inputs by entering your values. These inputs only take numbers (decimals allowed)
- Extract Percentage: how strong your extract or isolate is. It can be found on your infusion media’s COA.
- Extract Cost: The Cost of your infusion media per ounce. This is used to find your cost per unit for the extract
- Desired Dosage The dosage you’d like each of your containers to have after the infusion.
- Container Size How big the containers are that you are filling your infused product into. (2oz is typical)
The Results
Upon changing values, the calculator will return a recipe and a few helpful stats.
- Containers Yield: This will tell you how many bottles of your desired size you can yeild from a gallon of personal care base. Within the options menu, you can enable this stat for 55-gallon drums.
- Miligrams Per Oz of Finished Product How strong 1 fluid ounce of your finished product will be after infusal.
- Costs Your cost for the infusion media required for a single container, an entire gallon’s batch, and if enabled, a 55-gallon drum.
Other Tips/Info
If we left something out or if you have questions, feel free to leave a comment on this post. We can always modify the calculator to account for more details.
- How accurate is this? Very. However it relies on Specific Gravity values that are only verified for the MCT Oil we supply. It is still possible to use the calculator with another MCT Oil, There may however be a small volume discrepancy. Dosage will remain unharmed. If you find an error in calculation, please leave a comment, we are always looking for a way to improve.
- Can I skip using MCT Oil? Yes. If the product you are infusing is able to disolve/absorb the infusion media then the MCT Oil can be ommitted▬The final dosage will remain unchanged. This is typically possible with products like body spray base and massage oil base which dont need the help of MCT Oil for incoporation. Doing this will also have the least impact on product feel/consistancy.
- Could I use Distillate, Wax, Isolate, etc? This calculator can be used for any media type. The percentage(strength) range slider allows for a selection between 0 and 100%. So long as the infusion media’s weight is used, the carrier can be switched out or ommitted depending on the needs of your product or process. Some of the waxier medias may need a carrier like PEG400 to help break down the waxes.
- Why are CBD products so expensive in stores? It can cost as little as 50 cents to infuse a lotion at 100mg/2oz, yet in stores, you’d see prices at least over $50. Many times this comes down to marketing savvy and great packaging. We also believe that it is because sourcing infusion media is still somewhat difficult.
- Where do you get your CBD? For our experiments, we used this company’s isolate. They had upfront COAs, wholesale pricing and the process was as straight forward as any other internet purchase.
