Description

Sodium Hydroxide - Lye

Sodium Hydroxide is an ingredient with multiple uses. It is used in everything from household cleaners to food curing and, of course, soap making.  Lye is responsible for the saponification process in soap making.  Saponification is where fats and oils are mixed with an alkali and are then neutralized--thus creating soap.

STORAGE

When storing Sodium Hydroxide refrain from using glass as this ingredient is mildly corrosive against it.  It is recommended to use air-tight plastic containers as sodium hydroxide is sensitive to air moisture and can slowly dissolve if left in open air.

SHIPPING

Due to shipping regulations there is a 5 pound limit per order.  If you need more than 5 pounds then a new, separate order must be made.
