PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Pomade Solubilizer)
PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil – Hair Pomade Solubilizer is a fragrance emulsifier that allows you to add fragrance to our water base Hair Pomade Base.
Description
PEG-40 Hydrogentated Castor Oil - Pomade Solubilizer
With a water-based preparation, such as our Hair Pomade Base, adding fragrance without a solubilizer will result in the fragrance oil floating on top. As the saying goes, oil and water do not mix. No matter how much you shake, stir, or blend a water-based preparation, the oils will inevitably separate from the base. PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil - Hair Pomade Solubilizer is a fragrance emulsifier that allows you to add fragrance to our Hair Pomade Base.
Usage
Follow these simple instructions for best results:
- Fragrance Load: 1% is the recommended max fragrance load in our Hair Pomade Base
- Begin by melting your pomade base using indirect heat (a double boiler works best for this) stirring as little as possible to ensure air bubbles are not incorporated into your product.
- Once your pomade is completely melted you are ready to add your fragrance.
- You will be using a 5:1 ratio of solubilizer to fragrance or essential oil. Meaning, for example, 5oz of Solubilizer for every 1oz of fragrance oil used.
- Warm your solubilizer to a liquid state (usually 5-10 seconds in the microwave will do).
- Mix your fragrance and solubilizer until well combined.
- Once your solution is ready, it is time to slowly mix it into your pomade base. You may now also add extracts or colorant during this step.
Once fully combined you are ready to pour the fragrance infused Pomade Base into your heat safe containers. Let them set and cool fully before handling them. Any air bubbles or foam can be dispersed by lightly misting the warm product with alcohol.
Additional Notes
PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil - Hair Pomade Solubilizer is most used as a fragrance emulsifier, since most fragrances inherently already have an emulsifier built into their composition, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil works great as a fragrance emulsifier. PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil is what we use here to emulsify fragrance in our water based Hair Pomade formulation with great results.

Will it mix with is and fragrance and not separate and float to the top hair mist making -
Hi Darlena, the Peg-40 is a standard fragrance emulsifier, so it should work fine, but as always, we recommend small batch testing for your specific application. Thank you
