Here are 3 ways to make single use paper soap. One way will be the traditional way which requires a lot of time and the other 2 will use a liquid soap and hard soap method. Paper soap is a thin sheet meant to be good for one use. There is no need to carry around a big bottle of hand soap or a whole bar. Perfect for camping, park days, and spring outdoor activities.
The 3 Methods
- Spray Method (recommended)
- Hard Soap Method
- Liquid Soap Method
Why Use Paper Soap?
As warmer weather nears, it tends to draw people to the great outdoors. And with that comes the lack of consistent hand-washing options. When you go to a park for a big holiday like Easter. There is a chance that the bathrooms will run out of hand soap. With all the egg hunting and frolicking in the grass, soap and water are a must! these sheets of soap are great for passing out as a guaranteed soap. This quick lightweight hand soap is great for camping and backpacking as well. The thin sheets will fit into a pocket taking little to no space.
Water-dissolving Paper is a Must!
Water-soluble paper is a key component of each recipe. It is easy to print making it highly customizable to the season. We went with this company and tested it with every method you’ll see below. We liked the smooth surface that did not distort the pattern. The ingredients were able to fully absorb into the paper without pre-maturely dissolving the paper. yet the paper fully dissolves without leaving unsightly chunks. Finally, the paper does not interfere with the surfactants ensuring a good lather.
Hard Soap Method
The dipping method is the second best way to make paper soap. The soap takes longer to dissolve defeating the single-use concept. Reusing it could make it feel unclean and harder to store. But it could be best suited as a shower product. Take your sheets of printed paper, dip them in our clear melt and pour soap base. Ensuring the soap is hot (but not boiling) will leave the thinnest layer possible. Allow the sheets to cool before cutting them.
You will need:
- Water Soluble Paper that has been printed
- Essentials by Catalina Super Clear Melt and Pour Soap
- Fragrance Oil
Steps:
- 1) Melt the clear soap base in a big enough vessel to dip the full sheet. OR enough for the cutout.
- 2) Quickly dip the sheets into the soap and shake off any excess.
- 3) Let the dipped sheets rest on a nonstick surface, like parchment paper or a silicone pad.
- 4) Finally cut the sheets into your desired shapes or strips.
Liquid Soap Method
We found this method widely used on the internet. However, we found it inefficient compared to the other two methods. It is time-consuming and hard to scale.
You will need:
- Water Soluble Paper that has been printed
- Essentials by Catalina Multi functioning liquid Soap Base
- Fragrance Oil.
Steps:
- 1) Add your fragrance to the base and mix well.
- 2) Pour some of the scented liquid soap into a shallow container.
- 3) Dip or brush the liquid soap onto your sheets of paper.
- 4) hang in a dry area for at least 24 hours or until there is no moisture left in the paper.
- 5) Cut the finished sheets into sizeable pieces.
Spray Method (Recommended)
The Spray method worked best during our testing. It is quick, doesn’t need special equipment, is easily scalable, and has the best end product. The paper soap dissolves easily and the foam booster gives a nice lather that cleans the hands thoroughly.
Recipe:
- Water Soluble Paper that has been printed
- 50% Foam Booster SC-AOS-Sulfate Free Surfactant
- 45% Alcohol (90% or higher)
- 5% Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil
Steps:
- 1) Mix the foam booster, alcohol, and fragrance in the bottle. Secure the sprayer and shake to combine.
- 2) Spray the printed paper with the solution and dry it completely. This will only take a few hours since the alcohol speeds up the process.
- 3) cut the paper soap into desired shape or size.
